i don’t think a difference of 500hz in polling rate is actually noticeable but someone might be able to correct me on that

(Xenoscythe) #12

Its noticeable if your mouse can’t support it stable, can make a large difference.

To test if your mouse is stable download this : http://xenoscythe.com/sean/MouseMovementRecorder_1.12_20131113x.zip

Unzip, run the app.

When you move your mouse around you’ll see the console changing lots, the first two columns are the mouse movement and pointer movement, these show your mouse acceleration if any - if you have acceleration you’ll see lots of green and/or lots of red when moving your mouse lots. This is fixable providing its not inbuilt mouse acceleration

Inbuilt example (overshoots by a few pixels here and there:

The next column is the frequency, your polling rate should be an indication of what it should be running at, for example if your polling rate is set at 1000 while moving your mouse around it should be stable around 980-1020 hz, if its often falling well below that number you should really set your polling to 500 to make sure its stable otherwise youre missing a lot of mouse movements and could result in your mouse not pointing where you move it too

If your mouse is really shit and isn’t an internet approved gaming mouse or is a cheap rip off one you may need to set this down to 250, doing this can also remove some inbuilt mouse acceleration which is useful but you obviously have the trade off of it being at a shit frequency.

The last column is enhance pointer precision, is it on or off. Just turn it off. Some games force it on, which is a whole new matter entirely.

An example of bad: from a shitty random mouse I have spare running 1000hz :

An example of good, my deathadder running 1000hz:

Mate its not that far off forest’s. It just feels perfect for me, but you know how much i need to DM to make it consistent.

Definitely need to sort mine, @Sith Help me.

(Peter Woodberry) #16

Most of it is what you’re comfortable with Jack, took me nearly 1200 hours to actually settle on my resolution, crosshair and sensitivity.

(Gavin Rainey) #17

To add to Petes point I would defo stick with a res for a while.

4:3 is a good place to start.

(Dean) #18

Most people use these settings because they have for years. Provided your sensitivity isn’t stupidly fast it’s personal preference.
